30 September is International Translation Day, which celebrates translation and the important work of translators. The United Nations officially declared International Translation Day in 2017, when it passed a resolution recognizing the role of the professional translation and it has been commemorated worldwide ever since. The importance of translators has been fundamental since time immemorial, as by translating languages, they remove imaginary barriers enabling people to communicate. Although machine translation is rapidly improving, human translators are still essential and their work is indispensable, especially for artistic texts where creativity is required. There is another fact worth mentioning. Translation, as the result of the work of translators, makes it possible to transmit and disseminate the intellectual heritage of other peoples, thus allowing easier access to knowledge and learning. This is also one of the aims of the EPSULA project, which presents in translation the oral heritage of the indigenous ethnic groups of Ecuador and El Salvador.
